A mandala is a pattern built outward from a single point, one dot at a time. You are not drawing it freehand and you do not need a steady hand: the pattern comes from spacing and repetition, and the tools do the rest.
It is the most repetitive thing on the table and the one people find hardest to put down. Two hours, and you leave with the piece.

What is mandala dot painting?
A mandala is a pattern arranged around a centre point, and dot painting builds it in raised dots rather than brushstrokes. Each ring is spaced off the one before it, so the symmetry comes from the method rather than from measuring.
Do I need to be able to draw?
No, and this is the one activity here where that is worth saying twice. Nothing is drawn. You place dots with a tool onto a surface, and the pattern appears because of where the previous ring is.
What do I paint on?
Usually wood, a smooth stone or a small canvas, primed and ready when you sit down. Say if you would rather work on something specific and it can usually be arranged for a private session.
How long does a mandala take?
The workshop is two hours and most people finish a piece in it. It is the kind of work that expands to fill whatever time it is given, so the design is chosen at the start to suit the session.
Is it relaxing or is that just something people say?
It is genuinely repetitive, which is most of the appeal. There is no decision to make after the first few rings, and a room doing this is noticeably quieter than a room doing anything else on the list.
Can I take it home the same day?
Yes. The paint is touch dry before you leave. Give it a day before anything is stacked on top of it.
