Kintsugi workshop, Halifax
Repair it so the break shows.
Kintsugi is the Japanese repair that fills a break with gold instead of hiding it. The crack is the point. You sit down with something broken and leave with it mended and worth more than it was.
As far as we can find, nobody else in Nova Scotia runs this. Two hours, twelve seats, in Bedford, in the Halifax region.

What people ask before they book
Every answer is in the page whether the row is open or not, so a search engine can read it.
What is kintsugi?
Kintsugi is the Japanese practice of repairing broken pottery with a visible seam of gold. Nothing about the break is hidden. The repair becomes part of the piece, and the bowl is worth more for having been broken than it was before.
Do I need any experience?
No. Nothing in the workshop assumes you have done it before, and it is taught from the beginning. Most people arrive having never held a piece of broken pottery on purpose.
Can I bring my own broken piece?
Yes, and people often do. Bring something ceramic that means something to you, in a few clean pieces rather than a hundred fragments. If you would rather not, there are pieces here to work on.
Is a repaired piece food safe?
Treat what you make in a two-hour workshop as decorative. Traditional kintsugi uses urushi lacquer and cures for weeks before it is food safe; a workshop repair uses a faster material so you can take the piece home the same day.
How long does it take?
The workshop is two hours and you leave with your piece. Traditional kintsugi done the old way takes weeks of curing between coats, which is why almost nobody offers it as an afternoon.
What does it cost?
Seventy-five dollars a seat, with every material included and refreshments baked here. Twelve seats to a session.
